A POPULAR TV show filmed part of their new series featuring a local family last week - and used a historic Barnsley spot as their backdrop.

Bangers and Cash chose Barnsley Main Colliery as the setting for their feature on local garage owners and vintage car restorers Ken Brown, 71, and his son Jack, 37.

The duo - who own Coronation Garage at Dodworth - caught the attention of the Yesterday channel show last December when they bought a 1968 Ford Ranchero at auction.

The programme reached out to them following their purchase and they will be featured on series six, which airs next summer.

The show - which follows a family-run historic car auction business in North Yorkshire - also has Barnsley connections itself, being presented by comedian, actor and radio presenter Toby Foster.

Jack said: “The programme’s producers reached out to us after we bought it at auction.

“It is great to be doing, but it’s just finding the time to work on it alongside everything else.”

Producer Gregor Stewart added: “This is the first time I think the show has ever been in Barnsley, but we’re a team with strong connections to the town.

“A member of our team, Jake Smith, is actually from Barnsley and he recommended for us to film at the iconic spot.

“It really is a special car - Ken knows his stuff and says he doesn’t think he’s seen one in the UK quite like this one before.”
