A NEW brass band’s members have come across historic relics dating back to the 1940s left by previous users of their practice room.
The Brass Monkeys - a newly-formed band of well-established musicians - had a surprise when they found numerous artefacts.
The band hold their rehearsals in the outbuilding behind the Thornely Arms pub on High Street, Dodworth, and opened up a large storage cupboard to find vintage table tennis equipment along with photos and papers from as early as the 1940s, left by previous users of the room.
It’s known to have been used as a brass band practice room in the 1950s, and was later used for other things including ballet class rehearsals, table tennis practice and was even used as the studio of local artist Ashley Jackson for a period.
Eric Longford Jessop - conductor of the Brass Monkeys - said: “I would really like to return the relics to where they came from.
“I’d like to appeal to former owners of the ping-pong club and see if anyone would like this stuff.
“It would be a shame to let them be forgotten.”
