Barnsley have allowed loanee Herbie Kane to remain at Oxford United for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old central midfielder has impressed in 18 appearances for the League One club who this week paid an extra fee to remove Barnsley’s recall clause and keep him for the season.

There had been some calls to activate the recall clause as central midfield has been a week area for the Reds this season.

Us manager Karl Robinson told the Oxford Mail on Wednesday: “We agreed today with Barnsley to keep Herbie Kane for the rest of the season.

“There was a clause in his contract that he could be recalled in the first few days into January and the owners put up a fee to take that clause out, which is tremendous business.

“They’ve agreed it, it’s been sent back and forth. Herbie’s signed it today, he’s over the moon from that.”

Barnsley have confirmed the above.

Kane is contracted at Oakwell until 2024.
