POLICE are appealing for information following an unprovoked attack in the town centre on New Year’s Eve which left a woman unconscious.

It’s reported that officers were called to Peel Street following an unprovoked attack at about 2am.

A 33-year-old woman was reportedly walking along the street when she was pushed from behind - she then hit her head and lost consciousness.

Sergeant Neil Crossland said: “An investigation was launched following the report being made and enquiries and CCTV work has taken place since.

“The victim sustained swelling and bruising to her face, later receiving treatment at hospital.

“We are now appealing for witnesses, dash cam footage and information that may be able to help us progress our enquiries.
