AN author held a launch for her debut book at the weekend – her stocks of which sold out on the day – and raised more than £200 for charity at the event.

Kay Longden, of The Barrow in Wentworth, held the event at Cubley Hall in Penistone. The new author has said growing up in the Dearne area as a daughter of corner shop owners made her fall in love with stories. The retired supply teacher’s book, called ‘A Piece of the Jigsaw’, tells the story of a dragon which forms part of an elaborate eco system – helping to address the imbalances of nature and to maintain the status quo in a small Cornwall community.

Whilst Kay was signing and selling her books, her grandchildren Phoebe and Jasper Blunt, and their friend Amba Jaiswal, took the opportunity to raise money for an animal charity. They raised £207 for Millhouse Animal Sanctuary in Sheffield by selling raffle tickets and receiving other donations. “I sold out of copies of my book and had to take orders,” said Kay. “It was a very successful day.”
