THE number of people taking a PCR test in Barnsley is currently almost ten times less than this year’s peak.

On the week ending January 8 this year, more than 17,000 people had taken a PCR test - where swabs have been taken to a lab - and almost half of those were receiving a positive result.

Latest figures show less than 2,700 tests have been taken - and just 15.7 per cent of those are positive.
