STUDENT Ashley Greenwood is aiming straight for the top with her first attempt at mountaineering – she’s climbing Mount Everest.

Ashley, 20, will spend 14 days trekking 19,000 feet up the mountain to the highest base point which can be reached without needing to use breathing equipment.

She is taking on the challenge to raise money for Future for Nepal, a charity which sends children from isolated villages to a boarding school in Kathmandu.

Ashley, of Rotherham Road, Monk Bretton, needs to raise £2,000 in sponsorship in order to secure her place on the team, which is made up of members of Durham University’s charity group.
