PENISTONE junior runner Graihagh Turner has been selected for the England under 17 girls mountain running team to compete at the junior home internationals taking place in September.
England Athletics said: “Graihagh Turner earned her third England vest with third fastest time at the under 17 trial.
“Last year she was fifth at the Junior Home International in Peebles and earlier this year competing in the International Youth Cup in Spain, she was England’s top finisher in 15th”.
At the South Yorkshire Track meeting, Kingstone Runner Jill Johnson finished the women’s 400m in 2-07, while Tim Webster completed the men’s event in 1-18 plus the mile in 6-10 and the 3,000m in 11-47. Gavin Sanderson recorded times of 3-01 for 800m and 6-20 for the mile.
Last Thursday night saw the running of the four mile Stan’s Toffee Race at Elsecar. First woman on the night was Penistone’s Suzanne McGill who is building towards the Berlin marathon in September. Penistone had a successful night with age group wins for Alan Knox, Sue Hall and Barbara Haigh.
Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw was second woman in a time of 27-40 while Gail Colville finishing as first over55 woman in 29-45.
Ben Hopson’s time was 37-21.
Penistone’s James Mumford had a good run at the Ken Bingley Memorial 10k, placing fifth in a time of 36-49.
New Barnsley AC member Shaun Yates finished ninth in a time of 39-41.
The Stead family ventured up the M1 to take part in the Leeds festival of running. Mum and dad, Steve and Emma, did the half marathon while daughters Meg and Holly completed the 10k.
On the fells, six Penistone runners took on the Crowden Horseshoe.
George Parr was first back for the club in fifth place overall with a time of 66-53.
Tom Fryers was 11th overall.
Tom also collected first place in the men’s under 23 age category.
