THE Proud of Barnsley award-winning Autism Allotments has been transformed into Santa’s grotto and will cater for those with additional needs and disabilities.

The Thurnscoe site is run by dads Paul and Michael Atwal-Brice.

The duo have successfully set up the Autism Allotments site on Togo Street - a sensory garden for autistic children across Barnsley.

It’s been a huge success and now the pair are hoping to create something for adults with learning disabilities - a project called Accessible Allotments.

The site’s dedicated team of volunteers has now transformed the log cabin into a special needs-adapted Santa’s Grotto.

Sessions will take place this Saturday and December 15.

Michael told the Chronicle: “Capacity is capped at ten with five minutes with Santa, the cabin is wheelchair accessible and we have teamed up with Laura (surname) from national charity Phab to bring these sessions.

“We have a grotto this Saturday and on December 15 which is almost fully booked.

“We’ve had special needs homes and parents and carers where children have never been able to attend a grotto due to queues been too big or the surroundings too overwhelming,

“The sessions give children and adults with additional needs time to explore the environment and do arts and crafts whilst they wait.”
