The Prince of Wales has arrived in Barnsley.

He was welcomed by Barnsley Chronicle chairman and managing director Sir Nicholas Hewitt as he started his tour of the town at the newspaper offices.

In the newsroom he was shown the first edition of the paper, printed in 1858.

The Prince will meet staff who work for sister companies Script Media, which publishes business to business magazines and runs, and book publisher Pen and Sword.

He will unveil a plaque, sign the visitor book and start the press rolling to print a souvenir supplement.

Afterwards he will meet Dickie Bird at his statue before touring the University Campus Barnsley and Wentworth Castle Trust, where he will see the restoration of the Victorian conservatory.

• A free supplement will be included in Friday's paper, with photographs and reaction to the visit.
