MONK Bretton isn't known for its snow but that hasn't stopped local lad Koby Cook setting his sights on snowboarding for Team GB in the Olympics.

The ten-year-old, of Westgate, has a haul of medals to his name and has just returned from the British Snowboard Championships in Tignes, France, with another silver to add to his growing collection.

He competed in the under-12s half pipe category where he performed a series of tricks to impress judges, against children up to two years older than him.

He said: "I really enjoy it and I like doing the competitions.

"I get butterflies in my stomach when I drop in to the half pipe because it's quite high and then I have to ride in it to get my speed up and then jump out of the sides doing tricks.

"At the Brits (British Snowboard Championships) I did grabs, where you grab the board in the air, and I did 360 and 540 degree turns."

On the back of his success Koby is hoping to try out for the junior GB snowboarding team.

The Carlton Primary Academy pupil, who trains twice at week, has been hitting the slopes since he was about five after making the switch from skiing.
