A YOUNGSTER who dreams of being a professional ice hockey player and has represented England on many occasions has been put forward for an award.

Kyle Smith has been following his dream since his first ice skating lesson when he was just five. He previously played for the Sheffield Junior Ice Hockey Club and has represented England numerous times.

Last year, he asked his parents, Mandy and Mark, of Alverley Way, Birdwell, to look into sending him to the Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) based in Swindon.

Kyle said: "I'm really pleased to be nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award. I feel very lucky and fortunate to be able to play the sport I love every day. The fact that I have been nominated makes me know every day is worth the effort. Hopefully one day I will achieve my dreams of playing professional ice hockey for a living."
