HOYLAND'S one remaining high street butcher's shut up shop for the last time this week blaming fierce competition from supermarkets.

Jane and David Laban closed High Street butcher's on Wednesday. They took over in September 2012 from Chris Guest whose family ran the business for five generations.

In August last year Jane and David gave the chop to Monday openings because they were desperate for more help in the butchery department.

Things continued to be difficult and now the couple have decided to refurbish the premises - which they own - and possibly reopen sometime in the future perhaps as a delicatessen. Jane said it could take up to two years to complete full refurbishment as the shop was "a big space."
