A REVIEW of how the A and E department at Barnsley Hospital has performed over the winter will be held next month.

Papers from the Clinical Commissioning Group - which commissions the town’s health services - state the review will focus on the whole urgent and emergency care system, not just the acute hospital.

Latest figures from NHS England show just 87.1 per cent of all patients who attended A and E in January were seen within four hours. In November, the figure was 87.7 per cent and in December was 83.5 per cent.

The national target is 95 per cent of patients.

The aim of the review is to help health bosses understand pressures and allow future planning and put into practice the lessons learned.
