A DERELICT pair of semi-detached houses once used by the police and later as a youth club has become an eyesore and magnet for vandals which a local councillor says nobody seems prepared to do anything about.

Coun Gill Carr says the property, close to the children’s play area off Monkspring, Worsbrough Dale, was used as a youth club run by volunteers until a few years ago.

But now it has suffered major vandalism, is covered in graffiti, and has had its roof almost completely stripped.

She says it still belongs to South Yorkshire Police and used to be lived in by officers.

“I’ve spoken to police and the police and crime commissioner, but nobody seems to want to do anything about it,” she said.

“I’ve been complaining about it for years. If something was done a few years ago, it could have been sold but all the value in it’s probably gone now.

“There’s a bit of council-owned land next to it, and if the two were put together, we could get quite a few affordable homes on it. But nobody seems interested.

“It’s now a major eyesore and I’m concerned it’s becoming a danger. People are obviously getting into it.”

South Yorkshire Police did not respond to the Chronicle’s request for a comment.
