A PLANNING application for an Aldi store in Highgate is expected to be submitted to Barnsley Council within the next few weeks.

Aldi says it has received a positive response at a consultation meeting held a fortnight ago and that has prompted plans for the store on Barnsley Road to be drawn up quickly.

Mark Taylor, property director for Aldi, said: "The Goldthorpe and Highgate area is important to Aldi with the opening of its distribution centre early next year.

"Aldi is currently recruiting the 500 positions that will be available and has recently advertised these at the job centre in Goldthorpe."

If the store is built, 40 jobs will be created.
