A FAST-TRACK review of a town centre pub’s licence was ordered by police this week following an alleged serious assault at the night-spot.

An investigation into an incident at Chambers Bar on Peel Square, which happened on February 8, is ongoing but concern over the way it was handled has led to South Yorkshire Police requesting an ‘expedited review’ of its premises licence.

Barnsley Council’s licensing board subcommittee met on Tuesday to consider this request and Chief Inspector Mark James, from Barnsley Local Policing Team, said as a result of that meeting interim conditions have been placed on the bar.

A full review is expected later.
