ALTON Towers crash couple Leah Washington and Joe Pugh have handed over more than £14,000 to the emergency services who helped save their lives.

Leah and Joe, 19, were trapped on the Smiler ride following the horror smash at the Staffordshire theme park on June 2 last year.

The Barnsley couple were among the four most seriously injured casualties when two carriages collided on the ride, which reopened last Saturday.

Leah, 18, had to have her left leg amputated and both of Joe’s kneecaps were shattered.

The teenagers are now moving on with their lives since the accident but haven’t forgotten the lifesaving treatment they were received.
