WENDY Clarke lost her leg 12 years ago after a botched operation at Barnsley Hospital. But tomorrow she will take part in a 5k run at Locke Park to raise money for her son Ewan's football team and the children's limb centre at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where she was treated.

Wendy, 41, of Mylor Court, Monk Bretton, has been working with a personal trainer to learn how to run so she can run around with Ewan, seven. She said: "I don't consider myself disabled, I just get on with it. Things have been up and down but I've got that drive. I've brought up my little boy, I work as a medical receptionist and I care for my elderly parents. If I can do anything to help anyone, then I will.

"I just want to encourage other people that you can overcome things when they go bad, and carry on."
