Milton Pond Angling Group has applied for a £2000 grant to start repair work on the bottom pond.

Fishing pegs are being repaired and reeds and overgrown plants will be removed from the pond.

They have already received £500 to improve the top pond in a grant given two weeks ago.

The repairs will make the pond be easier to access for disabled people, a better environment for pond life and will provide a better fishing experience for anglers.

A spokesman said the fishing pegs were quite loose but they are being firmed up and will be made from recycled treated timber.

Secretary for the angling group, Ian Lipscombe said: "Work on the top pond is going well. We're about half way through and it should be complete soon.

"We needed a bigger grant to work on the bottom pond because it's not been used as much as there are lots of overgrowing reeds and the banks need shoring up.

"Hopefully it will make the area a lot more pleasant."
