ANGRY patients have started to boycott two under-fire GP surgeries in Grimethorpe and Shafton - just three weeks after a new provider came in.

Highgate, which has practices at Acorn Way, Grimethorpe, and High Street, Shafton, had been managed by Hill Brow Practice since 2009 but Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which sanctions the town’s health services, controversially opted to bring in a new provider.

Barnsley Healthcare Federation, who successfully bid against Hill Brow to take over the two surgeries from April 1, took over the care of more than 2,500 people - but only locum doctors have been available for patients to see ever since, according to patients who have contacted the Chronicle.

Peter Makinson, of Shafton Parish Council, told the Chronicle that another public meeting is being organised and said the surgeries for not being ‘fit for purpose’.
