THE anniversary of the death of a epileptic man who died while on a friend’s stag do in Berlin will be marked by his friends and family with a fundraising event.

Sean Leonard, 31, died on March 24 last year. He had gone to Berlin with about a dozen friends. But he complained of feeling unwell and went to lay down in his room.

When his friends returned at teatime, they found him collapsed on the floor.

Sean, of Gawber Road, Barnsley, suffered from epilepsy and diabetes and the event, on March 24, will raise money for the charity Epilepsy Action.

Sean’s sister Zoe, 31, of Newland Avenue, Cudworth, is arranging the event with their dad Kev.

She said: “We’re ok, it’s been tough and a bit strange (since Sean died) and my mum has become very spiritual.

“We’re organising a full day event at Royston Civic Hall with a craft fair from 1-5pm and from 6pm there will be a raffle, auction and live music.

“We wanted to mark the anniversary and to raise some money for Epilepsy Action because as well as Sean being a spokesman for them, they also supported him through his brain surgery.

“There are so many people who are diagnosed each day, and not everyone is aware of what to do (if someone has a fit). So we wanted to raise awareness, and hopefully we’ll have someone from Epilepsy Action there on the day.”
