‘SIGNIFICANT’ steps forward have been made in reducing antisocial behaviour problems in Cudworth, according to Barnsley Council.

The long-running issue, which involved youths congregating around shops on Barnsley Road and at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium, spiked during the summer and continued to cause concern up to last month’s Police and Communities Together (PACT) meeting.

Verbal abuse, intimidating behaviour and criminal damage have been a mainstay at the hotspots but now Barnsley Council, which has been working with South Yorkshire Police during recent weeks, say officers’ regular patrols - which became a local policing priority - have improved the situation.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesman for communities, said: “We have increased activity over the last few weeks, with additional patrols of the car park in the evenings and also on Barnsley Road. We haven’t received any further complaints within the past three weeks.”
