APPLICATIONS are now open for both primary and secondary schools for September 2019.

An online system is available, and the council said information packs are currently being circulated to parents of all eligible children.

Parents can still apply online in advance of receiving their packs.

The closing date for submission of applications is October 31 for secondary schools and January 15 for primary schools.

The council said it ‘strongly advised’ people to apply online.

“The system is easy to use, applicants will receive an email acknowledgement of their school preferences and there is no form to take into school unless the application is for a voluntary aided school,” a spokesman said.

“There is no risk the application will get lost and the result of any application can be sent by email, which is usually quicker than by post.”

More information about the process is available in the Admission to School - Academic Year 2019-20 - Advice to Parents booklet.

School admission figures for 2018-19 show that in Barnsley some 93.04 per cent of children received an offer for their first preference primary school and 95.7 per cent for secondary pupils.
