AN investigation has been launched following an arson attack at a supermarket in Hemsworth.

West Yorkshire Police would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident, which took place at Tesco on Market Street, at around 2am on Saturday.

Two suspects were caught on CCTV breaking in to the front of the store before starting a fire in the entrance way, causing considerable damage to its entrance.

They were described as a male and female, potentially aged between 16 to 18-years-old. The female was wearing glasses and had hair which was tied in a ponytail while the male had short hair.

Detective Sergeant Mick Casey said: “Enquiries are ongoing with the fire service into the cause of this fire which is being treated as arson and which has caused damage to the supermarket’s entrance.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who has information or who saw a juvenile male and female outside the store just prior to the fire being started or walking away from it in the aftermath of the blaze.

“Anyone who has information should contact 101, referencing crime number 1318 0068 268. Information can also be given to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
