CHAINSAW artist Steve Tarr has created 11 new carvings in trees at a Barnsley park.

Steve has been putting the finishing touches on his work at Penny Pie Park, Pogmoor.

They form a new story trail, similar to the popular Room on the Broom trail at Wakefield’s Anglers Country Park, and they help tell a story written by nine-year-old Lottie Wilson.

Lottie, a year five pupil at Holy Rood Primary, was the winner of a story writing competition organised by the school and the Penny Pie Park Community Group earlier this year.

Lottie’s story, called the Litter Park, is about a man who lives in the park and becomes frustrated by the people who dump rubbish in the park and creates a new park out of the litter.

Sarah Haigh, a member of the Penny Pie Park Community Group, said she was very pleased with how it had tuned out.

“He’s brought new life to dead trees that were basically just eyesore, it looks absolutely brilliant.”
