A CONVICTED murderer who claims art saved his life is exhibiting his work at a town centre gallery to raise money for charity.

Darren Green, 41, was sent to prison in 1997 after a fight in Cudworth got out of hand.

He was released four years ago and said art 'keeps him on an even keel'. A selection of his work is now being exhibited at the Newburgh Gallery on Dodworth Road.

Darren, who lives in the town centre, said: "I am an ex-prisoner who has rehabilitated through art - it saved my life.

"People who know me know what happened, but it was a fight between me and a friend and I just went over the top.

"My crime was not planned but my actions in 1997 were very reckless and someone died."
