A LIFE drawing group which was expected to run for about six weeks is celebrating its first anniversary.

Artists Mick Wilson and Suzi Brumby established Top Draw Life Drawing a year ago and has been hugely successful, attracting people of all abilities from the ages of 19 to nearly 90.

“It’s not a class, it’s a group, with the emphasis on fun,” said Mick, 65, of Darfield Road, Cudworth.

“It’s untutored, and there’s no computers. It’s definitely not an academic environment. It’s a chance to get together and socialise, and to try new skills, try and recreate some of the famous poses through the history of life drawing.”

Sometimes models are nude, sometimes not.

Suzi, 45, of Windhill Lane, Staincross, said: “We really want to promote life drawing and get people interested in it. It’s a great way to get people out socialising and meeting new people.

“Some people turn to it for stress relief, some to open up different areas of their creativity.

“We’re really pleased to have made it to a year. We’ve attracted people from all walks of life.”

The group meets on Mondays, 10.30am to 2.30pm, at Joseph Locke House, Heelis Street, Barnsley. New members welcome.
