ASOS founder Nick Robertson has sold shares in the online fashion retailer worth £20m after a turbulent year - including a blaze at the firm's warehouse in Grimethorpe.

Financial analysts told Retail Week and the Guardian that such a major share sale by the founder was 'hardly a positive signal', but an ASOS spokesman assured the Chronicle that the move had 'no implications' for the firm's Barnsley business.

Mr Robertson's disposal of 744,600 shares was reportedly prompted by a 'big tax bill' and leaves him with an 8.4 per cent stake in the retailer.

After the Grimethorpe fire at its warehouse in Park Spring Road in June last year, the business lost sales of between £25m and £30m.
