A BARNSLEY housing association is hoping to put a dent in the housing crisis through a programme of new and soon to be complete developments.

Together Housing plans to build more homes for affordable rent but also for shared ownership this year, helping those who can’t afford a full mortgage get on the property ladder.

They are building a further handful of homes for market sale, ploughing the money back into housing services to support those most in need.

This includes developments at Nanny Marr Road and Snape Hill, Darfield and King Street, Elsecar which, between them, will see 100 homes built for affordable rent.

As well as offering homes to address the pressing need for affordable housing, many of the sites have also offered opportunities for skills development.

Hilary Brady, from Together Housing Group, said this year it an important time for housing.

She said: “It’s no secret that there is a need for housing across the north of England and in 2018 we’ll be involved with the development of hundreds of new homes.

“Having a home you can afford is important to everyone, but it means different things to different people. Whether you need affordable long term lettings with no bond or want help getting on the property ladder, our approach is making a difference to people right across Barnsley.”
