FORMER staff quarters at Wortley Hall which have remained unoccupied for many decades are expected to be transformed into new family rooms for visitors as the hotel enjoys increased popularity.

A network of attic rooms in the roof-space of the historic hall are to be remodelled to provide new accommodation.

It will open up another chapter in the history of the building, which was once home to the Wharncliffe family, accommodated American forces during World War 2 and more recently has been run as a unique not-for-profit business under the umbrella of the trade union movement.

Listed building consent still has to be confirmed for the changes, but it is hoped they will allow the unused space to be opened up to provide a different type of accommodation to the hall’s existing guest rooms.
