A battling defensive performance from Barnsley was not enough to prevent hosts Queens Park Rangers keeping a club record eighth straight clean sheet in a 2-0 win.

Charlie Austin put Rangers ahead on 67 minutes with a simple finish after good work by Junior Hoilett then the striker won a penalty for a foul by Martin Cranie and converted to seal three points.

The defeat leaves Barnsley, who kept the same team that drew with Reading on Tuesday but were not as good, bottom of the league with eight losses from their 11 matches and 27 goals conceded. They could have lost by more if it was not for goal-line clearances by David Perkins and Paddy McCourt while Jack butland made a superb double save in the first half.

The Reds have now picked up just one point from their last six matches and head into the international break with five Championship points.
