A TRIP to the hairdressers meant a lot to this Darfield youngster.

For seven-year-old Ava Rushforth, it was a way to help out two charities.

The Little Princess Trust creates wigs for people aged 24 and under suffering from the effects of cancer treatment.

And eight or nine inches of Ava’s brown locks have been sent off to them.

But for Ava, who was inspired to make the donation after her auntie was diagnosed with cancer, she wanted to help out adults too.

So with that in mind, she rallied together sponsorship for her haircut to go to Cancer Research UK.

Mum Laura, from Dereseld Drive, Darfield, said: “Ava has raised more than £300 and school and her theatre group at the Real Music Centre have helped her.

“She had a bit of a moment before getting it cut as she has been cast as mini Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family Musical and Wednesday has long hair - but she decided to go ahead and she will wear a wig for the production.”

The All Saints Academy Darfield pupil had her hair cut at the Locks and Lipstick salon on New Street in Barnsley. They filmed it on Facebook Live.

“She looks a lot different now, she has never had it that short. I am very proud of her and it is all for an extremely good cause.”

Her total now stands at £400.
