A MAN has been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award for his exceptional achievement in helping to make Barnsley a safer place to live and work.

Andrew Feely, of Oakwood Close, Worsbrough Dale, has volunteered with St John Ambulance for more than 40 years.

Andrew has been nominated by his sister Delia and his father Derek.

Delia, of Walbrook, Worsbrough Bridge, said: "This is what he has always wanted to do. He has worked tirelessly to get to where he is today and has travelled all over Yorkshire - even when he worked full time as a paramedic.

"He always had time for his St John Ambulance duties. He does this tirelessly every day because he loves doing the job."

Delia said Andrew works on an educational programme at Barnsley FC which helps disadvantaged children learn about first aid.
