MEET baby Eden Walton - the first baby to be born at Barnsley Hospital on Christmas Day.

Eden arrived five days earlier than expected at 3.13am weighing seven pounds and two ounces.

Her surprised but delighted parents Jane Pierrepont and Darren Walton said Eden was now at home and both mother and baby are doing fine.

Jane, 29, of Lewdendale, Worsbrough Bridge, said they had to rush straight to hospital when her waters broke.

She said: “I had pains when I went to bed at 9.30pm, but I woke up at 12.45am and my waters had broken.

“I rang the hospital they told me to get straight up there.

“She was here in two and a half hours.”

The couple had to get relatives to watch Jane’s other two children Ashley Bellamy, 10, and Lydia Bellamy, seven, as they rushed to hospital, and missed them opening their presents on Christmas Day.

But Jane added: “They are over the moon with their new sister and are really taken with her, Lydia won’t leave her alone.”
