A YOUNG Barnsley band is in with a chance of performing at London’s O2 Area alongside rock band Razorlight, but needs a boost from the Barnsley public first.

Paisley Sundae won their third heat of a Radio X competition called Live at Your Local on Friday.

As a result they are through to an online public vote - which starts today - and they’re up against 20 other bands from heats around the country.

The vote whittles the 21 down to seven bands, who will all perform at the grand final at London’s O2, alongside Razorlight, to win the ultimate prize of £5,000 cash and a recording studio for a day.

The band consists of 17-year-olds Mason Harris, lead singer, from Middlecliffe, Josh Whitehurst, guitarist, from Thurnscoe, Henry Swift, bass, from Darfield, and Owen Galloway, drummer, from Great Houghton.

Owen’s dad Richard, of Doveside Drive, Darfield, said: “We’re really hoping Barnsley people get behind them. They’ve done so well, especially when they’re so young. They’ve already wiped the floor with older more professional bands.”

The regional heat was held at Sheffield’s Frog and Parrot on Friday where they were crowned the competition’s North East Champions.

The online vote starts today and runs for four days. Visit www.greeneking.co.uk/live-at-your-local to vote.
