POPULAR daytime TV show Bargain Hunt made a welcome return to Elsecar at the weekend.

The crew filmed a section of the programme on one of the village’s main historical figures, Benjamin Biram, who was born in 1804 and was the Earl Fitzwilliam’s steward and right hand man while he was building his empire in the iron and coal industries.

Project manager for Barnsley Museums, Dr John Tanner, said: “This is the third time that Bargain Hunt has come to Elsecar.

“The show also celebrates Benjamin Biram who was an engineer, and on the show we look at two of his greatest creations.”

During the programme, the team go into Biram’s office and look at some of his inventions including a ‘whirly-gig’ fan and an improvement on the Davy Lamp.
