Barnsley are unbeaten in four matches after coming behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The hosts took the lead when Josh Murphy's shot took a wicked deflection, but Harvey Barnes levelled two minutes after the break to finish off an excellent team move.

Barnsley remain 16th in the Championship, seven points clear of the relegation zone while the gap to the top six has been cut by one point to six. The Reds also have a game in hand on most teams around them.

Barnsley have not won in 18 games at Norwich since 1937 but this draw ended a run of six straight losses at Carrow Road.

Head coach Paul Heckingbottom made just one change from the side that beat Birmingham City 2-0 before the international break, as injured winger Lloyd Isgrove was replaced by Adam Hammill. Gary Gardner returned to the bench after injury.

Barnsley began brightly and had a couple of early corners but went behind in unfortunate circumstances in the 11th minute when Murphy's shot from the edge of the box hit a defender and rolled into the net past the wrong-footed Adam Davies.

Norwich could have gone further in front but Nelson Oliveira was off-target with two ambitious efforts before Davies rushed well out of his area to deny Murphy.

But Barnsley began to get back into the game through Hammill, who had an impressive first half. His 25-yard shot was tipped over by Angus Gunn who then stopped another similar effort from the same player after he skipped past two defenders.

Barnsley's other winger Barnes also came close with a shot that just missed the top right corner from the left of the box, as the away side ended the half well.

The Reds levelled with a superb goal two minutes into the second half. After an excellent exchange of passes by Tom Bradshaw and Hammill, George Moncur powered into the Norwich half and set up Barnes who finished brilliantly into the bottom right corner from the left of the box.

Reds captain Angus MacDonald then came off with an injury on 56 minutes and, with no other centre-backs on the bench, right-back Jason McCarthy had to come on and did well alongside the impressive Liam Lindsay.

Andy Yiadom shot straight at Angus Gunn from 25 yards while a similar effort from James Maddison was tipped over by Davies. Barnsley had several chances on the counter-attack but could not find the key final pass. Williams, Moncur and Barnes, twice, all fired off target from long range.

Williams picked up a fifth yellow card of the season and will be suspended for Tuesday's home game with Cardiff.
