13:19pm: Hello and welcome to the Chronicle's live coverage of Barnsley's home game against Brentford in the Championship which is due to kick off at 3pm.

13:20pm: This is the final home game of what has been a difficult season for the Oakwell club.

13:22pm: Today's programme reveals the end-of-season awards winners. Oliver McBurnie has won the fans' vote for Player of the Year after scoring eight goals in 15 matches after arriving in January on loan from Swansea City. He has been at Oakwell for less than three months of the nine-month season.

13:23pm: Centre-back Liam Lindsay has been named Players' Player of the Year after a vote by his team-mates. The 22-year-old has played more games than any other Red this season.

13:24pm: Joe Williams’ superb 25-yard volley into the top corner in the 4-2 success at Burton Albion in October has won Goal of the Season.

13:26pm: Young Player of the Year has gone to left-back Ben Williams, who is yet to make his first team debut.

13:28pm: Ryan Hedges has been named Community Player of the Year and Jordan Helliwell is Academy Player of the Year.

13:29pm: There is also a column in the programme from part-owner James Cryne, the son of former owner Patrick Cryne who died earlier this year. James discusses his father, the new owners and the relegation battle.

13:31pm: Unfortunately, the Reds could be relegated into League One today. A win would keep the fight going until the trip to Derby County on May 6 but a loss or a draw, combined with a win for Bolton Wanderers at Burton Albion, would put Barnsley in League One.

13:34pm: The Reds are currently 22nd in League One, two points adrift of safety, after winning three of their last 30 matches in all competitions and picking up only one point from their most recent four.

13:36pm: Brentford are hoping to reach the Premier League for the first time in their history as they are eighth, two places and three points away from the play-offs.

13:46pm: Barnsley will certainly require a much better performance than the one they produced on Tuesday in their 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. It was a game in hand for the Reds but they were very disappointing in a heavy loss.

13:47pm: Chief executive Gauthier Ganaye apologised to the fans for the midweek loss, questioned the players' commitment and called them 'scared little boys.'

13:47pm: Ganaye also said that the club was preparing recruitment plans for the Championship and League One, and that the new owners who took over midway through the season would still be as interested in the club should they go down.

13:49pm: Ganaye, right, said: "The owners share the fans' disappointment about the way things have gone this season. Relegation wouldn't change their plan long-term or their will to do something good in Barnsley, but it would mean a few changes and a bit more work."

13:54pm: Ganaye added: "We hope for the best but prepare for the worst so we are ready for whatever happens. The worst could happen and we would all be very, very disappointed but we would all work very hard to prepare for next season.  I still hope that we will have a happy ending and we have to fight for it until it is not possible."

13:54pm: There is plenty of doubt over the future of head coach Jose Morais who has won two and lost seven of his 13 games in charge so far. Ganaye said: "We appointed him with one mission and one mission only which is to keep us in this division. We will see at the end of the season if he is successful."

13:59pm: Barnsley team: Walton; Yiadom, Pinnock, Lindsay, Fryers; Mahoney, Potts, Gardner, Hammill; McBurnie, Moore. Subs: Davies, Pearson, Cavare, Mallan, Moncur, Bradshaw, Thiam.

14:00pm: Morais has made four changes from the side that lost 3-0 at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. The full-backs Andy Yiadom and Zeki Fryers, who were rested in midweek, return while Ethan Pinnock plays ahead of Adam Jackson who had been an injury doubt in the build-up and is out of the squad. George Moncur drops to the bench and is replaced by Connor Mahoney.

14:00pm: This could either be a 4-4-2 or the 4-4-3 with Mahoney in the middle that they played at Leeds United a week ago.

14:01pm: Brentford team: Bentley; Dalsgaard, Egan, Mepham, Barbet; Woods, Sawyers, MacLeod; Jozefzoon, Watkins, Canos

14:01pm: Subs: Daniels, Bjelland, Yennaris, Maupay, McEachran, Mokojto, Judge

14:03pm: Morais was in defiant mood at Thursday's pre-match press conference, saying relegation would not be a failure for him and insisting he is the right man for the job. He said: "You don't always please everyone and I don't expect to but I really, really, really believe that what I am doing is the best that could be done."

14:08pm: He added: "I wouldn't see it as a failure if the club is relegated, definitely not. I will definitely end up promoting a team into the Premier League, with a normal and fair time to build things."

14:08pm: On the prospects of staying up, Morais said: "Until the last game we have to believe we can do it. I think it is more difficult after Nottingham Forest but we still have to believe it is possible."

14:12pm: Morais admitted the midweek loss was painful and damaging to confidence, adding: "Obviously it hurts. We need to stand up and look forward, we can't just cry. We need to fight for our possibilities. I see the fight in them and I will be telling them to show it on Saturday."

14:15pm: As well as facing relegation today, the Reds could equal their club record for fewest home wins in a season if they do not add to their current tally of four from 22 games.

14:18pm: Their only victories at Oakwell this campaign have been against Nottingham Forest and Sunderland – both in August – Birmingham City in November then Sheffield United earlier this month.

14:21pm: They set a club record of 12 home matches without a win before beating the Blades then drawing against fellow strugglers Bolton in their most recent Oakwell fixture.

14:22pm: Only bottom two Sunderland and Burton Albion have won fewer games or picked up fewer points at home than Barnsley this season.

14:25pm: Morais said: "My wish is to send the fans home happy in the last game. I was very happy to give them a win after a long wait at home against Sheffield United. It was a special moment.  I expect and hope that we can still offer them a win in the last home game. My message to the fans would be that unity gives strength and let's be together in this fight until the end."

14:27pm: Star player McBurnie believes consistent performances are key to survival. He said: "Ever since the day I came in, I thought we would be safe and I still believe that 100 per cent. We need to play well for the full 90 minutes, not just show glimpses or 20 minutes or 45 minutes. To get results in this league, you need a good 90 minutes which we're not doing at the minute."

14:40pm: McBurnie also defended his head coach, saying: "We are totally behind Jose. Naturally the manager will be the focus of the criticism when we are getting beaten but we have to look at ourselves as well because we are the ones going out onto the pitch and playing."

14:40pm: Goalkeeper Jack Walton, 20, impressed on his debut for Barnsley on Tuesday. He is confident the Reds can stay up, saying: "We have two games left and we have to work together and do everything to stay up. We believe we can do it, we're not down and there isn't an R next to our name."

14:45pm: Joe Williams is back on the Oakwell pitch collecting his award for Goal of the Season. Williams is currently injured and receiving treatment at parent club Everton but has returned for this game

14:45pm: Brad Potts was third for Player of the Year, Andy Yiadom second and Oliver McBurnie the winner

14:46pm: Adam Hammill has won the Disabled Supporters' Player of the Year award

14:47pm: Brentford are 30 points and 14 places clear of Barnsley. The Bees had a poor start to the season, with no wins from their first eight league matches, but they have been on consistent form ever since.

14:48pm: Diminutive ginger central midfielder Ryan Woods is their key player, as he gets the team ticking in middle, alongside Lewis MacLeod and Romaine Sawyers who are also having impressive seasons. Woods is shown with Tom Bradshaw at Griffin Park in December.

14:49pm: There will also be an interesting battle between Brentford’s highly-rated centre-back Chris Mepham and Barnsley’s huge striker Kieffer Moore.

14:51pm: Four wins from their last five matches – with the draw in that run coming at third-placed Fulham thanks to an injury-time equaliser – have moved Dean Smith's Bees within two places and three points of the top six.

14:51pm: Brentford have a very specific, possession-based style. They have made the fewest tackles in the Championship this season but they have had the most shots by 150 and are also in the top five for passes, possession and pass completion.

14:52pm: There is a long applause around Oakwell at the moment as the club are displaying the names of fans who have died during the course of the season, as this is the final home game

14:52pm: Barnsley have won 12 of their 56 meetings with Brentford, losing 23, while they have  been defeated by them at Oakwell more times than they have beaten them there.

14:53pm: The Bees had an incredible record in Barnsley, not losing any of their first 11 visits between 1935 and 1964 with five wins in that run. It then became a less successful venue with seven defeats in 12 trips but, since Isaiah Rankin scored a 90th-minute goal to keep the Reds in the third tier with a 1-0 win in April 2003, Brentford have been unbeaten in four at Oakwell.

14:54pm: They won 2-0 in 2004 then drew in each of the next two seasons before returning after a 12-year gap last season for a 1-1 draw in April. Marley Watkins put the Reds ahead but they conceded before the break then Adam Davies saved a penalty following a handball by Angus MacDonald.

14:54pm: Brentford have not beaten Barnsley since 2006, as the Reds won 2-0 at Griffin Park last season and drew 0-0 there in December this season. It was very rainy that day as shown by this picture of Jason McCarthy.

14:55pm: The weather today is not as bad as that, but it is overcast and chilly as we wait for the players to walk out of the tunnel onto the pitch for this huge game.

14:56pm: The Barnsley subs are starting to walk out one by one and take their places in the dugout, high-fiving the young flag-waving mascots who are lined up to welcome the starting players as they come out of the tunnel

14:58pm: The two teams are now walking out for the last Oakwell match of the season

15:00pm: The players are out and the game is about to start

15:01pm: Noise from the away end and Ponty End at the moment, but drowned out by The White Strips blaring from the PA

15:02pm: Both teams go into little huddles and Barnsley are the first to break and go into position

15:02pm: GAME UNDERWAY

15:03pm: 1 Brentford's Ollie Watkins takes the kick-off, they attack and Zeki Fryers concedes a throw

15:04pm: 2 Brentford have started the better, Fryers kick an attempted clearance into McBurnie's leg and Brentford break into the box but the cross is cleared

15:05pm: 3 Sergi Canos gets away from Yiadom in the left corner and bursts into the box down the byline but his cross is blocked

15:05pm: The home fans are pretty loud today but it's not been the most convincing start from their team

15:06pm: 4 Florian Jozefzoon is allowed to run very easily down the right wing and square to Romaine Sawyers who has the first shot of the game from 15 yards but it is easily caught by Jack Walton on his home debut

15:08pm: A lot of the home supporters have been chanting since kick-off, but they are also getting annoyed with some of the panicked long balls upfield to no one from their team who are yet to settle

15:09pm: As usual, Jose Morais is nowhere to be seen on the sidelines, choosing instead to sit in his dugout. Brentford boss Dean Smith is on the edge of his technical area

15:11pm: Barnsley are yet to really have an attack as we enter the ninth minute. Brentford look a lot more comfortable and dangerous with the likes of Florian Jozefzoon and Romaine Sawyers seeing a lot of the ball so far

15:12pm: 10 Sawyers plays through Sergi Canos in the box but Andy Yiadom makes a good last-ditch block

15:12pm:

GOAL!
Kieffer Moore

15:14pm: An attempted cross from the left wing goes over goalkeeper hits the right post and goes in

15:15pm: What a bizarre goal. The big striker scores from a cross, in his side’s first real attack of the game. But Barnsley will take it. A crucial start for them

15:15pm: Barnsley fans will get more encouragement from Oliver McBurnie being back on his feet after limping around looking as though he may have to come off

15:16pm: That goal has dampened the spirits of the noisy away end and really added to the enthusiasm of the home fans

15:17pm: 15 A Brentford cross from the left causes chaos, as Zeki Fryers slices a simple clearance. But Ethan Pinnock gets the fans off their feet by harrying a Brentford attack all the way out of the box and about 30 yards down the left wing until he passes back towards his own goal

15:18pm: 'Don't worry about a thing because every little thing is gonna be alright' sing the Reds supporters

15:19pm: 17 Jack Walton times a run out of his box well to kick out for a throw-in after Brentford played the ball over the top

15:20pm: Overall a positive start for Barnsley, who were really hemmed in early on but scored a goal out of absolutely nothing and have looked a lot better since

15:22pm: 20 Brad Potts' cross is cleared with Kieffer Moore lurking behind the defender. The Reds have been on top for the last ten minutes

15:23pm: Plenty of songs and chants around the home fans here. They are determined to give their team support while they are still in with a chance of survival, which they seem to be after the first quarter of this game

15:25pm: Brentford don't seem as confident and comfortable on the ball as they did before going behind

15:27pm: 25 Fantastic chance for Kieffer Moore's second! He tries a diving header but sends it wide from six yards out after a good run and cross by Connor Mahoney

15:27pm: That was more the kind of goal we expected from Moore, rather than the shanked cross which went in to give Barnsley the lead after ten minutes

15:29pm: 27 Brentford win a corner which is controversial as Barnsley fans and players thought a visiting man touched it out of play

15:30pm: 28 Moore heads away Lewis MacLeod's corner than Andy Yiadom gets it further away

15:31pm: Big news elsewhere. Burton Albion are beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0

15:31pm: That would mean that the Reds get out of the relegation zone today should the current scores stay the same

15:32pm: 30 Barnsley fans have clearly heard the news as they sing ' we are staying up' then cheer as Sergi Canos drifts a shot well over the bar from outside the box

15:33pm: 31 A heavy touch by Ethan Pinnock allows Brentford a 3-on-2 attack but Ollie Watkins is superbly tackled in the box by Liam Lindsay

15:34pm: 33 Adam Hammill's left-wing free-kick is easily caught by Brentford goalkeeper Daniel Bentley

15:36pm: Both teams are having a drinks break here with slightly more than ten minutes to play before half-time

15:37pm: Everything is going perfectly for the Reds so far. They are winning and the team directly above them are losing. But there is a long way to go and Barnsley have badly struggled to hold onto leads recently

15:38pm: Burton are beating Bolton Wanderers 2-0

15:39pm: Burton are suddenly emerging as Barnsley's main rivals for survival, with Bolton on terrible form

15:39pm: If these results stay the same, Barnsley would be 21st on 41 points, level with Burton but with a better goal difference, with Bolton 23rd on 40

15:40pm: There isn't a huge amount happening in this game at the moment, with Barnsley clearly happy with the scoreline while Brentford have badly lost their rhythm since Moore's tenth minute strike

15:41pm: 39 Brentford win a corner but yet again Moore heads away then Chris Mepham fires a low 20-yarder wide

15:43pm: 43 Barnsley win a corner which Mahoney takes but it is headed clear as is Fryers' volley up shot on the volley

15:45pm: Just a few minutes until half-time now. Barnsley will be more than happy with this scoreline

15:46pm: Liam Lindsay has been a rock in defence today. He ends a Brentford attack with an excellent tackle about 30 yards from goal

15:47pm: Two minutes added time have been added

15:49pm: Half-time: Barnsley 1, Brentford 0. The Reds are getting cheered off the pitch after an encouraging first half

16:03pm: Kieffer Moore celebrates his goal

16:04pm: Another celebration pic

16:05pm: Barnsley and Brentford are both back out onto the pitch. It's the final 45 minutes at Oakwell of the 2017/18 season. Will the Reds get a famous victory?

16:06pm: SECOND HALF UNDERWAY

16:07pm: Barnsley are playing in the same 4-3-3 formation as in the first half, with McBurnie and Mahoney on the wing and Hammill behind Moore as the most attacking of the midfield three.

16:07pm: Brentford will be looking for.a much better performance than in the first half when, other than a promising first ten minutes, they did not look like a team challenging for the Premier League

16:08pm: Getting the second goal has been a major issue for Barnsley all season and they need to be clinical now with any chances they get to kill this game off. Brentford have to go for the win to have any chance of the top six

16:10pm: 49 Sawyers opens up the Reds defence with a good through ball but it hits the back leg of Ollie Watkins who would have been clean through if he had controlled it

16:11pm: 50 After good work on the left, Adam Hammill wins a corner

16:11pm:

GOAL!
Oliver McBurnie

16:12pm: He heads in a Hammill corner. It's his ninth goal in 16 Barnsley game and an absolutely huge one in the battle against relegation

16:14pm: Barnsley are well on top now, flowing forward with plenty of attacks. They have won a free-kick on the left wing

16:16pm: The free-kick comes to nothing but Barnsley could not have asked for a better start to the second half

16:17pm: 56 Another open goal miss from Kieffer Moore. He shanks wide from just a few yards out with the goal gaping on the rebound after Bentley saved from Mahoney who had cut in brilliantly from the right wing

16:17pm: Could that terrible miss come back to haunt Barnsley?

16:18pm: Moore has brought a lot to the team but that one and the one-yard miss against Leeds show he has a lot to work on in front of goal

16:20pm:

SUB OFF
Sergi Canos

16:20pm:

SUB ON
Neal Maupay

16:20pm: The first change of the game sees Brentford throw another striker on

16:22pm: 61 Another glaring Kieffer Moore miss and Barnsley should be out of sight! Hammill brilliantly plays in the big striker but he fires across the goal and wide from the left when one-on-one with Bentley

16:23pm: 63 Brentford win a free-kick 25 yards out after Lindsay trips Neal Maupay

16:24pm: Two Brentford players are standing right in front of Barnsley goalkeeper Jack Walton on the goal line, leading to a bit of an argument

16:24pm: 'We'll stand where we want' sing the away fans

16:25pm: They've walked away now

16:25pm: 64 After all of that, Florian Jozefzoon curls the free-kick well over the bar

16:26pm: 65 Adam Hammill is still looking for his first league goal of the season and nearly gets it as he brilliantly tricks his way past two players in the Brentford box before shooting tamely at the goalkeeper

16:27pm: 66 Walton holds a low left-wing cross from Ollie Watkins. It's been an easy home debut so far for the young goalkeeper

16:29pm: 68 Gardner spreads a good pass out to the wing to McBurnie who plays in infield to Hammill whose 20 yard low shot trickles wide

16:31pm: 70 Now Brad Potts fires just wide with a low shot from outside the box. That comes after McBurnie latches onto a bad pass from visiting captain John Egan who he then dribbles past before finding Potts

16:32pm: 71 Yoann Barbet fires wide from 20 yards from Brentford

16:32pm: Brentford have been really poor in the last hour of this match and will need an excellent final 20 to get anything out of it

16:33pm:

SUB OFF
Romaine Sawyers

16:34pm:

SUB ON
Kamohelo Mokotjo

16:34pm: The Bees only have one change left to make, the Reds have all three

16:35pm: 'Come on you Reds' is being boomed out around Oakwell. Barnsley are well on top and look to be heading out of the relegation zone

16:38pm: 77 Brentford are being reduced to long-range efforts here with Walton catching easily from Chris Mepham's 30-yarder

16:41pm: 80 Brentford have been passing the ball around the Barnsley area more recently but it has come to nothing so far and their latest attack leads to Ollie Watkins whipping a shot across goal

16:42pm: Brentford's afternoon is summed up by Yoann Barbet's miscontrolling a pass on the right wing and seeing the ball roll out of play Henrik Dalsgaard

16:43pm:

YELLOW CARD
Yoann Barbet

16:45pm: We're entering the 85th minute and Barnsley are so close to what would be a huge victory

16:46pm: Brentford are still trying to attack but they are struggling to open up the Reds defence and create any clear chances

16:47pm: 87 Yoann Barbet whips in a good cross from the left but it is missed by everyone and goes out for a goal kick

16:47pm:

SUB OFF

16:48pm:

16:48pm: Connor Mahoney gets a standing ovation after a good first home start

16:49pm: That's Barnsley's first change of the match

16:49pm: Reading and Birmingham are both losing so they could both be caught by Barnsley on the final day if the scores stay the same

16:50pm: We're into the 90th minute now

16:52pm:
