THERE will be no sixth form at Barnsley Academy from September, after numbers of students signing up for further education dwindled.

The decision was revealed in an Ofsted monitoring inspection - the third since the school was found to have 'serious weaknesses' by inspectors in February last year.

The report said: "In light of reduced numbers for the next year 12 cohort, the academy has decided not to offer a year 12 curriculum in September. It has invested its energies in supporting students in finding suitable provision with other local providers. A new curriculum has also been agreed with School Improvement Board and will be in place from September."
