A LOCAL grunge band have had to cancel some of the dates in their tour due to coronavirus - but they’re still managing to raise money for Barnsley charities from their living room.
Barnsley band Hands Off Gretel were mid-way through their UK tour before the lockdown brought an end to their schedule.
This hasn’t stopped the group in their tracks though, as they have implemented many competitions to help raise money for charities across the borough.
Lead singer Lauren Tate: “It’s been amazing doing the competitions and seeing the scale of response from our fans.
“Getting videos of people from Russia singing songs that you wrote in your bedroom is just awesome and has brought us so much pleasure.
“We are going to create a book with all the artwork and we will be raising more money for charity when we put that on sale later this month.”
Lauren and her guitarist partner, Sean McAvinue, held an acoustic live stream from their living room last Sunday, where over 500 people tuned in live, and a total of 20,000 have viewed the set since.
The band have already raised £850 for Barnsley Hospice, and £500 for Barnsley IDAS, by donating profits from her website over a 48-hour period.
Hands Off Gretel’s tour is scheduled to resume in the autumn, with dates scheduled at Birdwell Venue.
