BARNSLEY Council is to join a new think tank called Think Yorkshire.

The cabinet of the council agreed to spend £500 on the annual fee for membership of the new body, which will focus on the economic and social needs of the region.

Leader of the council Coun Sir Steve Houghton said it was important to work together in the interests of the region, particularly at a time when significant infrastructure decisions were being made such as HS2 and the decision this week to scrap further electrification of existing rail lines.
