A YOUNG Barnsley cyclist is gearing for the biggest youth race in the world.

Harrison Dainty, ten, is competing against 1,000 of the best young riders at the six-day Tour of Assen next month, which is regarded as a Tour de France for kids.

He will be representing Team Cystic Fibrosis, a Barnsley-based team dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the charity Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Harrison’s sister Molly, 12, has the disease.

His father Martin, a former Team GB cyclist of Racecommon Lane, Barnsley, said Harrison - who is ranked fifth in the country - is very excited to be competing.

“It is a big thing to do and it’s good to test yourself against the best young kids in the world,” said Martin, of Racecommon Lane, Barnsley.
