A BARNSLEY group which helps people with anxiety, depression and stress is in the running for a £315,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Therapies for Anxiety, Depression and Stress (TADS) started in January last year and in October put in a first round bid to the Big Lottery - Reaching Communities fund.

Voluntary manager Karen Mitchell said: "We have been selected to go through to stage two. This is an amazing success for our organisation and for Barnsley as the total amount of the bid is £315,000 over five years.

"That will allow employment of two full time workers and a number of session workers."

The funding will help TADS to plug a gap in services for young people and families suffering from mental health issues across South Yorkshire.

TADS has publicised its work in the area and has strong links with local schools, doctors, Barnardos, and organisations in education services. It is currently offering a mini service in schools. Children are identified by parent support advisors and volunteers go into school and work through mental health issues with children and young people.

Its next project is starting a support group for primary school children at Asda, Barnsley, on Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
