BARNSLEY holiday makers have lost thousands of pounds and faced holiday nightmares after Low Cost Holidays went into administration.

Scores of Barnsley families were among the 27,000 customers already abroad last Friday when the firm ceased trading and 110,000 were looking forward to pre-booked holidays.

Sara Pykett and her family had just landed in Spain when the news broke on Friday and learned what had happened when she tried to get on the website on her phone to retrieve her hotel booking information.

“There was just a load of stuff in Spanish on there, and lots of ‘sorrys’ so I just thought what’s gone wrong here,” said Sara, 35, of Stanley Street, Cudworth.

“I did a quick Google search and my stomach just dropped. I remember thinking they’ll be ATOL protected, and not to worry, we’ll be fine. But unfortunately not.”
