CHILDREN who are currently in hospital will only be able to receive visits from parents and carers, Barnsley Hospital has announced.
Due to the increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the UK, the hospital has implemented the rule in a bid to protect visitors, staff and patients.
The statement said: “Due to the current situation in the UK and coronavirus increasing in numbers daily, paediatric services at Barnsley Hospital have taken the decision that only parents/carers can visit.
“Sadly this means that we will not be able to have siblings, grandparents, or any other family and friends visiting at this present time. This is for the protection of visitors, and all patients in our care.
“This also applies to paediatric emergencies, so please ensure that only parents or carers accompany patients to the emergency department.”
The number of coronavirus cases that have been confirmed in Barnsley currently stands at five, and across the UK there have been 1,543 confirmed cases and 35 deaths.
Boris Johnson said in a conference today (Monday), that people should avoid non-essential contact with others and stop all unnecessary travel.
He added: “We need people to start working from home and you should avoid pubs, clubs and other such social venues.”
