A BARNSLEY mum and her ten-year-old daughter escaped the deadly blast at Manchester Arena by a matter of seconds.

Sarah Thawley had taken daughter Olivia to the Ariana Grande concert on Monday as an early present for her 11th birthday, which is on Sunday.

They had been looking at merchandise in the arena foyer just moments before attacker Salman Abedi detonated a home-made device packed with nuts and bolts as crowds were leaving the concert.

Beautician Sarah, of Haigh Moor Way, said: “It was the biggest explosion.

“I looked behind us and saw all this white dust and debris. There was screaming and everyone was hysterical. We grabbed the kids and just ran.

“It was mayhem.”
