A BARNSLEY nurse who has become one of the country's top chief nurses has been given an honorary Doctor of Medicine in special recognition of her major contribution to health care.

Professor Hilary Chapman, chief nurse of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, has made major contributions to health policy and health care delivery.

The 51-year-old, who lives in Cawthorne, played a leading role in the development of a system that is now used widely in hospitals throughout the UK and helps determine safe nurse staffing levels on acute wards depending on how sick or dependent patients are.
