A BIG pink bus with a face on it rolled through the town centre this week, inviting people to sit and have a brew and a chat.

The bus, named ‘Hattie,’ is an open top bus modified to include seating areas and tables where people can get together and chat, as well as games for children and families, which is touring the country as part of a new initiative by Stagecoach Yorkshire.

The event in Barnsley was organised by Stagecoach in partnership with the charity Age UK.

A spokesman for Stagecoach said: “The initiative is part of our efforts to offer support and advice about mental health, after signing the ‘Time to Talk’ pledge in February, a pledge to provide support to employees.

“As well as offering information and access to mental health support for staff, we have gone further and extended this to the public through events and other initiatives. Hattie is one way in which we hope to support those in the wider community.

“Look out for Hattie as she will be touring the East Midlands, supporting us in our efforts to bring communities together, promote health and well-being and provide an important space for families and children, as well as older people, to meet, take part in fun activities, and ‘get chatty with Hattie’.”
