A BARNSLEY professor has made a major breakthrough that could lead to the development of a safer and more effective ibuprofen drug.
Jane Mitchell, who grew up in Brierley, is now a professor of pharmacology in critical care medicine at Imperial College London.
The former Willowgarth High School student, who is 52 tomorrow, is part of a team of British scientists trialling a new formula for over-the-counter drug ibuprofen which they believe is not only safer but attacks pain faster and could help millions of people around the world who take the anti-inflammatory medication.
